Things I am looking forward to this summer

Well,

Summer is vastly approaching and there is so much to look forward to. Sun, warmth and blockbusters!!!!

Iron Man is out next week. I will be seeing that sucker on opening night and so far I am getting buzzed to see it.

Next up is the Hulk.

Now, I am not as stoked for this flick as I am for Iron Man. BUT, I am more keen on this one then the previous incantation. Nothing wrong with that one (albeit no Hulk Smash and absoloutely no villian) just not my cup o'tea. With this one I pray we are getting the better one. We have a awesome new villain and Hulk looks like a bad ass!

Next Up we got the two biggies in my opinion for summer blockbuster

Hellboy II

This one looks bigger and better than the first. I personally felt that this movie could have done a lot better in the theatres, unfortunately it did not get the recognition with the masses as it did with the core audience.

Next up is by far the creme de la creme. The Dark Knight

With the untimely death of Heath Ledger, I do not think that this movie is going to get the proper review and good buzz that this film derserves. It is going to get the buzz regardless, just that people are mainly going to see this flick since it was his last. I am seriously stoked for this sucker and I cannot wait until it comes out. I love what Christopher Nolan and gang has created here. A gritty dark and proper protrayal of Batman. Christian Bale is simply perfect for this role and since the first film, I have been eagerly waiting for this sucker to come out.

Posts on Atomic Robo and other films that I am eargerly waiting to come out this summer will be up soon. Cheers.

Atomic Robo

Is now being read. I picked up all the issues this past week and I am in the process of going through them all. Sunday, I should have a review up on my thoughts on this sucker. So far issue number one was pretty good (albeit short) but it introduced the character in a fast quick way and got right to the action. I will post up a full review when issue six has been finished. Cheers.

The Black Panther animated is a go

Well we finally are getting a Black Panther animated series. I am looking forward to see how Marvel will handle this. I hope that they don't chinse out on the animation or go the 3-D route. If anything I would love to see done similar to anime style. The character and his stories would fit beautifully with that style of animation. Hopefully there will be more information forthcoming soon.

Toronto Con this past weekend

Well I went to the show this past weekend. It was alright. There was a lot of deals to be had and I was able to fill some holes in my ever expanding collection of comics. The big lure for me though was to meet Steve Epting. Did not happen.

First he did not get there until around oneish. Then he would only do about ten sketches. However, I was like the 15th person in line(which sucked since I would have love for him to do one for me). Anyways I would rate this show about 6.5 our of 10. I would have rated it higher but without getting to meet the one person I wanted to meet pretty much put a damper on this show for me.

Big highlight for me though was finding some Captain America Issues that I have been missing from the Brubaker run as well as finding the hardback trade of John Cassady's Captain America run.

Biggest downer for the whole day was seeing some people ahead of me waiting in line to meet with Steve with something in the neighbourhood of 100 comics to get signed by the artist. I fail to understand why you need to get all those comics signed. Dumbest thing ever in my mind and hopefully next time he comes up here the show organizers can limit how many comics someone can get signed. Anyways cheers all.

Queen and Country is worth a look

Hey All

Just finished reading Queen and Country volume one (liked it a lot). I will have a post up later tonight. Also I just picked up volume two of Deus Ex Machina (titled tags) and I should have a review up later as well. Cheers.

Edit:

This title was mentioned by a colleague at Heroes World as being a really good story. They were right. If you like espionage stories or even "24" then you may enjoy this book. A word of caution though, it takes awhile to get into the story but once it is going, it does not let up! Part MI5, Part 24 and everything in-between. The stories are well thought out and you really start to see the issues that both the operatives in the story and the people who make the decisions on our safety in the world operate. A really good read and I am looking forward to the next volume when it comes out.

Deus Ex..I'm in

Ya know sometimes I REALLY need to start listening to the fine folks at Heroes World. Normally I do but sometimes my brain functions in such a weird way that I really do not listen to it.

That is the case when it comes to Deus Ex Machina. Brian K. Vaughan has been one of the better writers out there in this wonderful world of comics. He consistently came through with Y the Last Man. Why I did not latch onto this sooner is beyond me. I got this sucker on Sunday I finished it today on my lunch break.

Normally when it comes to my comics, I try to steer clear of comics that try to represent real life and the issue we live with day in day out. However, what Brian K. Vaughan and gang have done here is still original. Still fresh and has enough of a alternate reality feel to it to keep you reading.

Our main hero here is Mitchell Hundred. A freak mishap gives him the ability to speak with all sorts of machinery. Not the most amazing powers per se, yet this makes up for some really neat ways in dealing with certain problems that may arise throughout the story. He, along with some friends decided to become a superhero to help New Yorkers out.
With volume one we start to see his trials and tribulations that he goes through in being a superhero and then Mayor of a major metropolitan city. I have only read the first trade but will be moving onto the second and third by weeks end.
When first reading this trade I think the only thing that I was not to interested in was the art. Not saying it is bad, just not the style I am interested in. Yet, it seems that when Brian K. Vaughan picks his artist for his stories. He really does try to find the perfect one for the actual story. It fits perfectly just like the art with Y the last man.

One other thing that I like with this story are the supporting characters. They can make or break a comic. They are engaging and provide enough foil for the main protagonist to move with their story. I am really looking forward in the next trade and this will now be on my pull list Heroes World.
With Brian K. Vaughan and Ed Brubaker, I have found two really good writers that I will always look forward to what they will come out with next. They both seem to get the characters that they are writing for and really keep you focused into their stories that they weave. I highly recommend this trade and comics to anyone that is looking for something that is a little different.
If you were a fan of Y, then I am sure that you will be a fan of this story as well.

Battlestar Gallactica

AWESOME!!!

Great intro. I could not believe this show has not been on for over a year. It just felt like it was on last week (not in repeats mind you). Seeing the big reveal of the final four of five cylons model in last season and seeing Stabuck come back, I was dumbstruck.

Seeing that they really ARE cylons really has put a huge curve on where this show is going to. My guess for the final cylon model is the president. Too me that is the most logical character to be the final cylon. Particularly since she has had that vision, has gotten cancer back (even though she got healed up quite awhile ago). My money is on her.

Let us hope that Sci-Fi does not split this season up, rather give us the whole shebang in one full season. Let the show go out in a big FRAKKIN BOOM!!!

Cannot wait until next friday. Cheers.

Iron Man....CAN"T WAIT

I may not be the biggest fan of ol'bucket head. But, damn does the movie look cool or what! After hearing about Robert Downey Jr. getting the part I was intrigued. After seeing the clips, I got interested. After seeing the trailers, I was hooked.

The great thing here is that Iron Man looks awesome. It is being handled properly by Marvel and Jon Favreau and there doing a pretty bang up job of marketing it. The best thing is we are getting an honest to goodness badass villian in this flick. No running around the desert, no fighting water or rocks. He is fighting the freakin Iron Monger.

The invasion has begun

Well,
Marvel has started the first salvo of the summer blockbuster comic book month. Secret Invasion just landed and it has me intrigued. I won't spoil it for you fine folks, but if you get a chance check it out.
I am sure that it will bring forth more controversy this summer (the more the merrier I say). Looking forward to seeing where this story will go. If you have ever read my rants on Heroes World forums then you know I will have no bones in picking this sucker apart.
Hopefully this sucker will be bigger and better than Civil War and won't create as much controversy as One More Day.

Something new and something fresh

Hey All

simply put this is where my musing will go. I will have more content added in soon. So stay tuned folks.
